VZW's Military Tributes is a Web collection of photographs and stories honoring veterans of the United States Armed Forces.
This site is dedicated to my father, Lewis D. Whaley, who served in the 596th Signal Support Company, 97th Signal Battalion, in the 1960s, and my late grandfather, Starlin H. Hughes, who served in the 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, during World War II.
NOTE: If you are interested in posting your own Military Tribute to a loved one or friend, please visit the new and improved Military Tributes!
Aside from maintaining this site, Vincent Z. Whaley is a Tennessee journalist who has spent the past several years researching and writing a book on the history of the 9th Infantry Division during World War II.
Whaley is compiling the largest collection of memoirs of 9th Infantry Division veterans to be included in a book along with the history of the division during World War II and photographs of the "Octofoil's" former battlefields and headquarters in Europe.
Veterans of the 9th Infantry Division's three infantry regiments during the Second World War the 39th "Fighting Falcons," the 47th "Raiders," and the 60th "Go-Devils" are being sought for interviews for Whaley's book.
If you are a World War II veteran who served in the 9th Infantry Division, please contact Whaley for an interview. Your gallant achievements during the Second World War will be remembered forever in Whaley's book, which will be a tribute to the veterans and a stark reminder to their families and friends of their gallant sacrifices during World War II.
Thank you for visiting VZW's Military Tributes!
