Whaley returned
home from Kaiserslautern, Germany,
in September 1963 and was stationed
at Fort Chaffee for about nine months.
During a two-week leave home to Tennessee,
Whaley clearly remembers when President
John F. Kennedy was assassinated on
Friday, November 22, 1963.
After returning to Fort Chaffee soon
thereafter, Whaley remembers attending
a special memorial service for Kennedy
that was held in front of the Fort
Chaffee headquarters building and
flag pictured here.
