The northwest
corner of Burg Hohenecken's defensive
ditch greets visitors hiking from
Hohenecken village before they enter
the castle grounds.
My father, Lewis D. Whaley, who hiked
with other soldiers in the 596th Signal
Support Company, 97th Signal Battalion,
7th United States Army, to the castle
between 1961 and 1962 traveled from
Pulaski Barracks in Kaiserslautern,
Germany.
I believe they may have hiked to Burg
Hohenecken by using one of many trails
leading to the castle, such as the
one depicted in the left background
of this photograph.
