At this dead-end
circle, which is located at the end
of Pulaski Barracks and beside the
former Armed Forces Network television
station building, Spc.-4 Lewis D.
Whaley and other GIs would occasionally
hike down the mountain to a gasthaus.
Plenty of cognac and splendid German
beer were consumed by the men in Landstuhl,
a small village located at the base
of the mountain.
The beer of choice, Whaley remembers,
among the men of the 596th Signal
Support Company was BBK, or as the
GIs called it, "Bad Bastards
of Kaiserslautern." Featuring
a porcelain top with wire flipper
and rubber stopper, Whaley remembers
one BBK being the equivalent to a
bottle of wine or quart of beer.
In April 1999 to my greatest
chagrin I learned that production
of BBK had ceased. However, Karlsberg
Ur-Pils and Park Brau was in abundance
and filled the bill fantastically
for me.
A basketball goal and special units
were located at the dead-end circle
in April 1999.
