9th Infantry Division — World War II — Normandy, France
Omaha Beach, Normandy, France
While the 9th Infantry Division did not participate in combat at Omaha Beach, more casualties were suffered at "Bloody Omaha" than any of the other D-Day invasion beaches.

Portions of the Allies' artificial Mulberry harbors can still be seen in the waters off Omaha Beach.

This photo was taken from the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville sur Mer, where approximately 9,386 fallen soldiers are buried.

Approximately 461 of those graves belong to 9th Infantry Division soldiers.
