sent him a Heart-Shield Bible to wear
in his front shirt pocket during World
War II. The metal shield that binds
to the front cover of the Bible reads
"May this keep you safe from
harm."
Hughes can be seen in many photos
with what appears to be the Heart-Shield
Bible in his front shirt pocket.
